@Glisten they would, if there was still a big T in Aus. 18 months after I resigned the centre I worked in closed and everyone got redundancy. I would have had nearly 20 year's service - the redundancy package would have been outstanding. Not something I like to think about as you can imagine!
I started in 1991 as a naïve 22 year old. By the time I left I'd learned a thing or 2 😉
I was popular because I'd been there so long, and I was involved in so many different aspects of the company, Telstra Friends did community things as well as involvement with the Olympics of course. I got to walk in the parade in Perth with the Olympians, as well as arranging gift donations for St Vincent de Paul every year, anything sponsored by Telstra basically. The year before I left I had business cards, a work mobile and access to Telstra vehicles whenever I wanted. I was also paid outrageously well and still can't believe I left to take a pay drop working for the state government. The state govt pays very well, Telstra paid better. I bawled my last day there.
I worked hard but also played hard.
We were flown to Melbourne for lunch and drank the restaurant dry. The last ones standing were the West Australians, we were pretty proud of that 😁. I got to see the Global Operations Centre, where everything to do with telecommunications and Telstra happens. It was amazing.
Lol, reliving my glory days like a veteran soldier!
Oh, remember Optus and their "yes" campaign? Early on in the piece they "lost" a satellite. So we had posters of the Optus logo up with "Have we lost a satellite? yes."
There was a certain Telstra building in the CBD that Optus rented a floor from. Optus workers would park their car in front of the very obvious Telstra building and someone stuck Telstra stickers all over the Optus car. Took them days to realise.
Gotta love competition!!
