Re: FAR AND AWAY

LOL @Appleblossom 🥕

@tyme A government school but in a pretty good area. I had previously taught for nearly 20 years in the more difficult to staff schools (and loved it). When I went on leave for nearly 2 years I had a great Principal but she left whilst I was on leave and the new one was terrible. I am not sure how some of these people get those jobs!!!! My current Principal (and all the senior staff team) are amazing ...I am so very lucky. We are never left alone to deal with anything - there is always someone there if we need. I am also very fond of our assistant principal. She started new last year and has been incredible. She is always my first port of call if I need anything and ALWAYS offers any spare time to me to help out. Sometimes I tell her to see my colleague teacher next door instead but lately I have accepted the extra time off to get some things sorted (and have a mental break). I do a lot of 'extra' things with our grade so that time helps pull things together across classes when needed.

Re: FAR AND AWAY

That's truly amazing to hear @Zoe7 . It's good that you feel so supported.

In victoria, so many walked off the job 2 weeks ago because of the terrible conditions. I guess that is why vic is so short on teachers. They are really scraping the bottom of the barrel which means the quality isn't great. So many grads in leadership positions which means they have limited people skills and life experience.

So refreshing to hear how supported you are.

My niece's and nephew's school is pretty good, but they are going down in student numbers. I think their area is aging, so the kids have moved into highschool and there are no new kiddos.

I have a lot to say about the school system and how it often doesnt cater to some of our kids. That's for another day.

It's just so great to hear how supported you feel 🙂

On the other hand, have an AWESOME break too!

Re: FAR AND AWAY

Visited my parents and sister this morning for Easter @Snowie Did not stay long at either place as I have a chest infection and was feeling quite unwell. Will head to urgent care tomorrow if I need to so I can get some antibiotics.

Re: FAR AND AWAY

Had a union walk off for a day here too a couple of weeks ago @tyme I was at work all day as I left the union a few years ago. They did nothing to help me, found out they were over charging fees for me for a couple of years (got the difference back) and I did not like the way they were running things (including going against a majority member vote on something).

We are also amongst the lowest paid teachers in Australia but I would think the comparisons with other states would be similar when cost of living is taken into account.

I whole heartedly agree with the system not catering for so many. I do treat each student as a different person - each with their own strengths and needs but as a 'rule' most teachers don't. It does take a lot of work to differentiate for a whole class but it is so worth it.

Re: FAR AND AWAY

Well done on even going out this morning @Zoe7 with your chest infection.

I hope you feel better tomorrow and you don't end up at urgent care hon. I guess at least with some meds it might help you get over it quicker.

Re: FAR AND AWAY

Dosing up on vit c and pain relief @Snowie and mostly resting - doing a little painting but I can do that sitting down. We are doing a large banner (to go somewhere public so I won't say what). The kids have done a wonderful job - I am just filling in any gaps so it is simple but also relaxing.

Re: FAR AND AWAY

Hopefully meds help @Zoe7 I hope the banner works out. I'm sure the kids will be excited when it's up and everyone can see it.

Haven't been doing much here either. Just watching tv.
